BREAKING: Skateboarding legend Terry Kennedy is set to be released from prison on December 31, 2025, just in time for New Year’s Eve. The Illinois Department of Corrections confirmed that Kennedy’s release date was accelerated due to him being eligible for and receiving sentence credit.

Kennedy, aged 40, is currently serving a five-year sentence following a tragic incident that resulted in the death of fellow skater Josiah Kassahun. This shocking news comes as fans and the skateboarding community eagerly await his return.

Kennedy was convicted in 2022 on two counts of aggravated battery, stemming from an altercation that occurred on July 27, 2021, at the Comfort Suites Motel in Oakbrook Terrace, Illinois. During the incident, Kennedy reportedly became enraged while leaving the motel with his ex-girlfriend and Kassahun. When Kassahun attempted to intervene, he was punched by Kennedy, which led to him falling and suffering fatal injuries. The medical examiner later determined that Kassahun died from multiple internal injuries.

Despite being acquitted of the murder charge, Kennedy’s convictions led to two consecutive five-year sentences, with the possibility of release after serving 50 percent of his time. Following his release on New Year’s Eve, he will be under supervised release until June 30, 2026, when he is expected to be fully discharged.

Known for his impressive career in street skating, Kennedy has competed in prestigious events like the X Games and has appeared in various television shows, films, and video games. His return is anticipated by many fans who remember his contributions to the sport.

With only 29 days left until his release, the skateboarding community is buzzing with excitement and curiosity about what Kennedy’s future holds. Will he return to the skate scene, or take a different path? Fans will be watching closely as this story develops.
