Adem Bunkeddeko Launches 2026 Campaign for N.Y. Comptroller
BREAKING: Former U.S. congressional candidate Adem Bunkeddeko has officially announced his candidacy for New York state comptroller in 2026, intensifying the competition against incumbent Tom DiNapoli. This announcement comes as a critical challenge to the status quo, with Bunkeddeko stating, “For too long, the Comptroller’s office has been on the sidelines – and New Yorkers have paid the price. It’s time for change.”
Bunkeddeko, hailing from Brooklyn, unveiled his campaign in a compelling YouTube video, detailing his priorities which include auditing the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA), expanding state housing access vouchers, and bolstering upstate’s economy through investments in clean energy, manufacturing, and infrastructure.
This move marks a significant step in Bunkeddeko’s political journey, having previously contested against Rep. Yvette Clarke in New York’s 9th Congressional District during both 2018 and 2020. He narrowly lost the first time and finished second in a five-way race two years later.
Bunkeddeko joins a growing list of Democratic challengers to DiNapoli, which includes Drew Warshaw, a former assistant secretary to Gov. Eliot Spitzer, and Raj Goyle, an entrepreneur and attorney. On the Republican side, biotech entrepreneur and Cuban American immigrant Joseph Hernandez is also vying for the nomination.
DiNapoli, who has served as comptroller since 2007, is currently the longest-serving non-congressional statewide officeholder. His long tenure has come under scrutiny as the race heats up, with challengers emphasizing the need for renewed leadership in the office.
As New York approaches the 2026 election, all eyes will be on the candidates as they outline their visions for the future of the state. Voters are encouraged to pay close attention to the upcoming debates and campaign events that will shape the race.
With Bunkeddeko’s announcement, the political landscape in New York is set for a thrilling showdown. Expect to see more developments as candidates ramp up their campaigns and engage with the electorate in the coming months.
Stay tuned for further updates on this evolving story, as the implications for New Yorkers are significant and far-reaching.
