Guests Share Cherished Family Heirlooms at De Beers Event
During an intimate cocktail party overlooking Times Square, guests gathered to celebrate De Beers’ “A Diamond Is Forever” campaign and the December cover story featuring Padma Lakshmi. The event, held at Dear Irving, brought together notable figures such as Allison Williams, Tayshia Adams, and Kim Shui, who engaged in conversations about their cherished family heirlooms while enjoying pieces from independent jewelers crafted with natural diamonds.
Meaningful Connections Through Heirlooms
As guests mingled, the conversation naturally turned towards personal stories of family heirlooms. Each guest shared unique memories and the sentimental value attached to these treasures. One guest mentioned how their grandfather collected gold coins, which the family eventually melted down to create new jewelry. “I made a necklace and a ring. My siblings made a bracelet. It’s one of the coolest pieces of jewelry I have,” they said.
Another guest displayed her fondness for an emerald earring and necklace set that has been passed down through generations. “It was my grandma’s, then my mom’s, and now mine. It’s drawn me to more jewelry like that,” she remarked, illustrating how heirlooms can inspire personal style.
One participant highlighted the influence of her grandmother, stating, “I get a lot of incredible pieces from Grandma. She has the best style I’ve ever seen; she’s my personal style icon.” She mentioned a treasured Dior Gaucho Saddle Bag that she wears daily and plans to pass on to her children, emphasizing the importance of keeping heirlooms within the family.
Tradition and Legacy
Several guests recounted heirlooms that represented family traditions. One individual spoke about a handwoven rug that has been a part of family weddings for generations. “My brother got married last year, and we used it in our backyard with 200 peony plants. It’s in a trunk, and whoever gets married last keeps it until the next engagement,” they explained.
Another guest proudly shared about her mother’s four-leaf-clover necklace, stating, “It’s a real clover, and it’s gold. I keep it on me for good luck.” She mentioned that while her sisters are unaware of its existence, the necklace holds significant personal value.
Reflecting on childhood memories, one guest described a family treasure chest believed to originate from Ireland. “When I was a kid, I thought it was a pirate chest. My mom even threw me a pirate-themed party and hid my presents in it,” she recalled, revealing that the chest is now part of her inheritance.
Others showcased their connection to family history through various heirloom pieces. “I have a bunch of my grandmother’s rings that were given to my mom, and I wear them all the time,” one guest expressed. Another shared fond memories of her grandmother’s china, which she now plans to use for hosting her own gatherings, saying, “I’m the Martha Stewart of my family, so my grandma trusts me with it.”
The evening not only highlighted the elegance and allure of diamonds but also underscored the deep emotional connections people have with their family legacies.
