Harden Surges Past Melo, Joins NBA’s Top 10 Scorers Now
UPDATE: LA Clippers star James Harden has officially entered the NBA’s elite list, surpassing Carmelo Anthony to claim the 10th spot on the all-time scoring list during a game against the Minnesota Timberwolves on October 28, 2023. Harden entered the matchup needing 21 points to eclipse Anthony’s total of 28,289 points, and achieved this milestone with two free throws at 4:23 PM in the third quarter.
This achievement marks a significant moment in Harden’s career, elevating him among basketball legends. Next in line are Shaquille O’Neal and Kevin Durant, with 28,596 and 31,024 points respectively. “You look at that list, it’s like there’s no way,” Harden expressed earlier this week, reflecting on the honor of being among basketball’s greatest.
Harden’s scoring prowess is no accident; he entered the game averaging 26.5 points per game this season. His journey to the top has been paved with hard work, as he recognizes the giants he stands alongside, including LeBron James, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and Kobe Bryant. “They were flying,” he noted, acknowledging the athleticism of those who came before him.
The star guard has transformed the game with his exceptional step-back jumper, a technique he popularized and perfected, recording nearly 2,000 successful attempts and over 5,100 points from that shot alone. “It’s something I can really be proud of,” Harden stated, emphasizing his role in shaping modern basketball.
In addition to his scoring feats, Harden recently surpassed Ray Allen for second place on the all-time three-point list, now sitting at 3,255 three-pointers, trailing only Stephen Curry with 4,111. “It’s amazing,” said Clippers teammate Kawhi Leonard, recognizing Harden’s continued high-level performance at the age of 36.
Reflecting on his career, Harden admitted the trade from the Oklahoma City Thunder to Houston changed everything for him. “Life-changing,” he described the move, which allowed him to blossom into the scoring machine he is today. He averaged an impressive 29.6 points per game during his time in Houston, winning multiple scoring titles and an MVP award in the process.
As Harden continues to ascend the scoring chart, he remains uncertain about how much longer he can play and who he might catch next. “I feel like that still,” he said when asked if he ever felt unstoppable during a game.
With this historic achievement, Harden solidifies his legacy in the NBA. Fans and analysts alike will be watching closely as he continues to make his mark on the league. Stay tuned for updates on his journey through the top scorers list as he aims to chase down the likes of LeBron James and others above him.
