UPDATE: Just hours after being fired, former University of Michigan football coach Sherrone Moore was booked into the Washtenaw County Jail on Wednesday, December 27, 2025. Authorities confirmed that Moore’s arrest followed an alleged assault incident reported at approximately 4 p.m. local time in the 3000 block of Ann Arbor Saline Road.

Pittsfield Township police stated that the incident did not appear random, and the suspect, identified as Moore, is currently awaiting charges pending review by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s office. The police released a statement emphasizing that details will remain limited to maintain the integrity of the ongoing investigation.

Earlier that same day, the University of Michigan announced Moore’s termination, citing “credible evidence” of an “inappropriate relationship with a staff member.” Warde Manuel, athletic director, stated that Moore was “terminated with cause, effective immediately,” reiterating the university’s strict policy against such behavior.

Moore, who led the Wolverines to a 16-8 record over the past two seasons and a victory in the ReliaQuest Bowl, is now facing serious legal consequences. In response to Moore’s departure, the university has appointed Biff Poggi as interim head coach. Poggi, who previously served as associate coach and led Charlotte until 2024, will now take the helm as Michigan prepares for the upcoming Citrus Bowl against No. 13 Texas on New Year’s Eve.

As developments continue to unfold, the situation remains critical for both Moore and the University of Michigan community. The impact of these events extends beyond the football field, raising significant questions about ethics and accountability in collegiate sports.

Stay tuned for further updates on this developing story as authorities and university officials navigate the implications of these serious allegations.
