Community Remembers Educator Harold Klonecky After 98 Remarkable Years
Harold Meredith Klonecky, a cherished educator and community member, passed away on November 16, 2025, at the age of 98 in Torrance, California. His legacy as an inspiring teacher and administrator has left a profound impact on generations of students and colleagues.
Born to Irma and Constant Klonecky in Dickinson, North Dakota, on May 22, 1927, Klonecky dedicated his life to education. He earned a Bachelor’s degree from Dickinson State University and began his career teaching English and Drama. In 1955, he relocated to Torrance, where he continued to teach at North High School and later became a prominent figure at Torrance High School.
Klonecky pursued further education, earning his Doctorate of Education from USC. His 25-year tenure at Torrance High School included roles as both Assistant Principal and Principal, culminating in his retirement in 1987. Throughout his career, he was known for his compassion, patience, and commitment to student success, earning deep respect from students, faculty, and parents alike.
Even at 98 years old, Klonecky remained actively engaged with the Torrance High School community, particularly among retirees. His passions extended beyond education. Klonecky enjoyed golfing and was an avid reader of mystery novels. He was also known for his exceptional dancing skills, making him a sought-after partner at social gatherings.
Klonecky’s kindness extended to both people and animals, reflecting his gentle nature. He is survived by his family, including Theresa and Jeff Heiney, along with their son, Erick, and Jen and Patrick Sullivan, who have four children: Kieran, Aidan, Declan, and Bridget. He was predeceased by his son, Christopher Klonecky.
The family invites friends and the community to celebrate Klonecky’s life. A Visitation and Rosary will take place on December 15, 2025, from 16:00 to 20:00 at Coastal Funeral Center, located at 25001 Narbonne Ave, Lomita. A Funeral Mass is scheduled for December 16, 2025, at 10:00 at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, situated at 25511 Eshelman Ave, Lomita. Following the Mass, a reception will be held at Hof’s Hut at 11:30 at 23635 Crenshaw Blvd, Torrance.
Harold Klonecky’s commitment to education and his vibrant spirit will be remembered fondly by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
