Hood River Valley Triumphs Over Centennial with 36-6 Victory

Hood River Valley’s football team secured a decisive victory against Centennial High School on October 17, 2023, winning by a score of 36-6. This win marked a return to form for Hood River, which had recently faced its first loss of the season. The team dominated the game, showing strength at the line of scrimmage and establishing a commanding 21-0 lead by halftime.
With this victory, Hood River Valley improved its season record to 6-1 and 5-1 in Special District 1 play. The team now shares the top spot in the league with Milwaukie, who suffered a loss to Gresham High School, falling 27-21. This outcome sets the stage for an exciting conclusion to the regular season, with two weeks remaining.
Hood River Valley’s scoring began with a 16-yard touchdown run from Nick Tuttle in the first quarter. In the second quarter, Bam Layna added a three-yard touchdown run, while Jose Betancourt-Valle contributed with a remarkable 60-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown. The team faced a setback when a potential touchdown by Davin Snyder was called back due to a penalty, but their aggressive play continued throughout the contest.
Dominant Performance Continues
The second half saw Hood River Valley maintain its momentum, scoring two additional touchdowns that extended their lead to 36-0. The first came from a connection between quarterback Bodie Stuben and Snyder, with a five-yard pass resulting in another score. Stuben’s successful point-after kick brought the score to 28-0. This touchdown was set up by Tuttle’s impressive 31-yard run, aided by a critical block from Miguel Arriola.
Layna added to the scoreboard with another three-yard touchdown run, and a savvy play from Josh McLaughlin on a low snap allowed him to score a two-point conversion. Significant contributions to this drive included a 29-yard run from Layna, complemented by blocks from Milo Bielen and Talon-Quinn Britt.
By the end of the game, Layna had amassed an impressive 112 yards rushing on 17 carries, while Snyder caught four passes for a total of 30 yards. Despite Centennial’s late touchdown on the final play of the game, Hood River Valley’s comprehensive victory showcased their resilience and dominance on the field.
As Hood River Valley looks ahead, they are poised to make a strong push for the playoffs, with their next match set to be crucial for their standing. The team’s performance against Centennial highlights their strengths and sets a positive tone for the remainder of the season.
