Pacers Lock In Aaron Nesmith with Urgent $40.4M Extension

URGENT UPDATE: The Indiana Pacers have just confirmed a major contract extension for forward Aaron Nesmith, agreeing to a two-year deal worth $40.4 million through the 2028-29 season. This critical move secures one of the franchise’s top defenders ahead of the looming deadline for veteran extensions.
Reported by agent Mike Lindeman of Excel Sports Management to ESPN late Monday night, the deal includes a trade kicker, showcasing the Pacers’ commitment to retaining Nesmith after his standout performance during the playoff run. He started all 23 games en route to the NBA Finals, proving instrumental in the team’s success.
Nesmith experienced a remarkable breakout during the 2024-25 season, achieving career highs with a field goal percentage of 51%, a three-point percentage of 43%, and a free throw percentage of 91%. His postseason performance was even more impressive; he took on formidable defensive assignments against stars like Jalen Williams, Jalen Brunson, Giannis Antetokounmpo, and Darius Garland.
In a historic playoff run, Nesmith shot an astounding 49.2% from three-point range, setting a record for the best percentage in a single postseason with at least 100 three-point attempts, as confirmed by ESPN Research. This stellar performance not only highlights his growth as a player but also underscores his value to the Pacers as they aim for continued success in the upcoming seasons.
The Pacers’ decision to lock in Nesmith is expected to have significant implications for their strategy moving forward. As the team gears up for the next season, all eyes will be on how Nesmith continues to develop his game and contribute to the franchise’s aspirations.
Stay tuned for further updates as the Pacers position themselves for another competitive season in the league. This contract extension is just the beginning of what promises to be an exciting chapter for both Nesmith and the Indiana Pacers.
