LeBron James Guides Lakers in Review After Opening Loss

UPDATE: The Los Angeles Lakers are regrouping after their 119-109 opening-night loss to the Golden State Warriors on October 24, 2023. Coach JJ Redick revealed that LeBron James, despite being sidelined with sciatica, played a crucial role in the team’s film review session.
James, who missed his first regular-season opener in 23 years, was an active participant in the session, helping to analyze defensive lapses that allowed Stephen Curry and Buddy Hield to exploit open three-point shots. Redick emphasized the importance of James’ insights, stating, “LeBron was really helpful,” as the team prepares for their next challenge against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Friday.
James will not be re-evaluated for 1-2 weeks, with sources indicating his potential return to action not expected until mid-November. Despite his absence, Redick praised the veteran’s input: “I told them him asking questions, him giving his input, us having a back-and-forth is so healthy,” he said.
The Lakers faced numerous challenges in their season opener. They struggled defensively, allowing Curry and Hield to shoot 8-for-19 from three-point range, while the Lakers managed only 8-for-32. Additionally, they were outscored 33-18 in bench points, missed 11 free throws, and committed 20 turnovers, leading to 22 points for the Warriors.
However, the film review allowed players to gain perspective on areas needing improvement. Guard Gabe Vincent noted, “I think there were some glaring things that we can work on, which in some ways is encouraging.” Team forward Jarred Vanderbilt echoed this sentiment, stating, “It wasn’t as bad as we thought. It’s a couple things that we can clean up.”
In related news, Luka Doncic, who scored 43 points against the Warriors, underwent treatment for a right leg issue but was deemed fine by Redick, who said, “He seems to be fine. I don’t think it’s anything major.” Doncic’s health will be critical for the Lakers as they navigate the early season without James.
Redick expressed optimism about the team’s potential to develop chemistry, stating, “Our team… had a connective brain tissue. We just don’t have that yet. We’re going to get there. I’m very confident we’re going to get there.”
As the Lakers look to bounce back, fans are eager to see how this team evolves with James’ leadership and the contributions of players like Doncic. Stay tuned for further developments as the Lakers aim to right the ship against the Timberwolves.
