A hit-and-run incident on State Route 125 in Lemon Grove, California, resulted in the death of a 26-year-old passenger on March 17, 2024. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that the passenger was traveling in a 2023 Nissan Sentra when it collided with another vehicle and was subsequently struck by a third vehicle.

Around 04:28 a.m., the Nissan Sentra was heading northbound on SR-125, south of Spring Street, when it crashed into a 2007 Mercedes E350 that was stopped on the right shoulder of the highway. The Mercedes was driven by a 35-year-old man from Maryland, who had two female passengers. Following the collision, the Mercedes was pushed forward but remained on the shoulder, while the Nissan came to a halt across multiple lanes of the highway.

In a subsequent incident, a 33-year-old woman from San Diego, driving a 2022 Ford Edge, was unable to avoid hitting the Nissan. The impact caused both the Nissan and the Ford to strike the center median. Tragically, the passenger in the Nissan died from his injuries at the scene, while the driver of the Nissan fled on foot.

The driver and passengers of the Mercedes sustained minor injuries and were transported to a nearby hospital, along with the driver of the Ford Edge. The CHP has stated that the investigation is ongoing, and it remains unclear whether alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash.

The CHP is urging anyone with information regarding the incident to reach out to their El Cajon Area Office at 619-219-6900. This tragic event highlights the dangers associated with reckless driving and the importance of road safety.
