Mike Maddux Leaves Rangers, Joins Angels as Pitching Coach
BREAKING: In a stunning move, Texas Rangers pitching coach Mike Maddux is departing the organization just after leading the team to its first World Series title in 2023. The announcement came shortly after the Rangers replaced fired manager Bruce Bochy with Skip Schumaker, prompting Maddux’s decision to accept a new role.
Maddux, aged 64, played a crucial role in guiding the Rangers to a league-leading 3.41 ERA in 2025. His departure marks a significant shift for the franchise, which has expressed deep gratitude for his contributions. “The Texas Rangers are forever grateful to Mike for his contributions here,” stated Chris Young, the team’s president of baseball operations. “Mike has played a major role for some of the best teams in Rangers history. We wish him the best.”
This is Maddux’s second stint with the Rangers; he initially served from 2009 to 2015 under managers Ron Washington and Jeff Banister before leaving to coach again with Washington. He returned in 2023 to work with star pitchers like Nathan Eovaldi and Jacob deGrom.
Now, the Los Angeles Angels are reportedly signing Maddux as their new pitching coach, a move that could reshape their pitching staff dynamics. As fans and analysts react to the news, the implications for both teams could be profound.
Stay tuned for updates as this story develops. The coaching landscape in Major League Baseball is shifting rapidly, and Maddux’s experience will undoubtedly make waves in his new role.
