Police Investigate Burglary at Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s Home
UPDATE: Police are actively investigating a burglary at a home reportedly owned by Oklahoma City Thunder star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, occurring while the NBA MVP was playing a game against the Washington Wizards on November 2, 2023. The incident raises serious security concerns as athletes across the country face similar threats.
The break-in was reported around 7:45 p.m. Thursday in Nichols Hills, a residential area just north of downtown Oklahoma City. Local authorities have not confirmed whether anything was stolen from the property, but they stated that the suspects fled before officers arrived at the scene.
“While no arrests have been made, there is no reason to believe the public is in any danger,”
police said in a statement. However, the incident underscores a troubling trend of burglaries targeting high-profile athletes, who often possess valuable items in their homes.
This incident is part of a concerning pattern, as several professional athletes, including NFL stars Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, and Joe Burrow, as well as NBA players like Luka Doncic and NHL star Evgeni Malkin, have recently been victims of similar crimes. Law enforcement officials have warned that thieves often strike on game days when they know the players will be away from home, typically breaking in through rear windows.
In response to the rising number of burglaries, the NBA sent a memo to teams in November 2024, emphasizing the importance of home security. Recommendations include installing updated alarm systems with cameras, securely locking away valuables, and even employing guard services during extended absences. Players are also advised to avoid online listings that could reveal home interiors.
The situation is developing, and the Oklahoma City police have urged anyone with information to come forward as they continue their investigation. The community remains on alert as the safety of high-profile individuals comes into question.
As this story unfolds, fans and residents alike are left wondering: What additional measures will be taken to protect athletes and their families from these alarming security breaches?
This incident not only raises questions about personal safety but also highlights the need for increased vigilance within the sports community. Stay tuned for further updates as police work to resolve this urgent matter.
