UPDATE: A dedicated nurse from Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City has raised $1,100 to support families in need during the ongoing government shutdown. Shelby Finn, an RN with the Baby Resource Team, felt an urgent call to action to help bridge the food gap affecting vulnerable communities.

Finn, inspired by a social media fundraiser, took to her hospital’s employee page to rally support. “I don’t want any kid to not have food,” Finn stated. “What can we do to help bridge that gap while they’re figuring their lives out?” Her heartfelt plea resonated with her colleagues, leading to a wave of donations.

After her initial post, funds began pouring in, including a generous offer from an anonymous donor willing to match contributions up to $500. The response has been overwhelming, with Finn confirming they have raised a total of $1,100 thus far.

With approximately 700,000 Oklahomans, including children, veterans, and seniors, relying on SNAP benefits, Finn’s initiative comes at a critical time. She expressed gratitude, saying, “I think people recognize this need and want to help meet it.” Through collective efforts, even small donations can create a significant impact.

Finn encourages anyone wanting to contribute to donate directly to the Regional Food Bank to help feed those in need. “If I can donate $10, but have 50 other people donating $10, it makes a bigger impact,” she said.

As the situation continues to develop, the urgency for support remains high. Finn’s initiative is a powerful reminder of community solidarity, and her call for action is resonating with many.

For those looking to make a difference, donations can be made at the Regional Food Bank website. The need is immediate, and every contribution counts in the fight against hunger during these challenging times.
