Shawn Lavin Declares Victory in Amherst Supervisor Election!
UPDATE: Shawn Lavin has officially won the Amherst supervisor election, securing 52.9% of the votes as of 10:20 p.m. today, November 7, 2023. Lavin’s victory marks a significant transition from his current role as deputy supervisor to the town’s top leadership position.
This election was a fierce contest against local business owner Dan Gagliardo, who campaigned on the Republican line. Lavin’s platform focused on vital issues such as enhancing neighborhood development, repairing the town’s roads and bridges, and ensuring the quality of life for residents.
The election stirred heated debates, particularly surrounding the contentious purchase of the former Westwood Country Club by Erie County. Gagliardo accused Lavin of unethical conduct, leading to an ethics complaint regarding Lavin’s involvement in the deal. However, Lavin has consistently maintained that he recused himself from the crucial vote on September 25.
Lavin, a veteran who previously served in the Air National Guard, has been a member of the Amherst Town Board since 2017. He has held various roles, including Director of Veterans Affairs and Deputy Commissioner of Personnel. He will succeed Brian Kulpa, who was prohibited by town law from seeking a third term after two successful terms in office.
As residents celebrate Lavin’s win, the focus now shifts to how his administration will address the pressing infrastructure needs and community services that played a critical role in his election. Expect further developments as Lavin prepares to implement his vision for the town.
Stay tuned for more updates on Lavin’s plans and the impact of this election on Amherst’s future.
