UPDATE: Central Texas is set for a decisive showdown as several local races will advance to runoff elections on Saturday, December 13, following a lack of majority votes for candidates in the recent elections. With critical issues at stake, these runoffs will determine the future leadership of key municipalities.

In a tightly contested race for Buda City Council District C, candidates Kimberly Goodman and Jeffrey Morales are gearing up for a runoff after both secured approximately 43% of the vote. Goodman narrowly missed an outright victory, falling just 75 votes short of the required threshold.

Meanwhile, Kyle Mayor candidates Robert Rizo and Yvonne Flores-Cale will face off after Rizo garnered 42% of the votes, while Flores-Cale received 32%. Rizo was 422 votes shy of winning outright, highlighting the intense competition in this pivotal race.

In Kyle City Council District 1, incumbent Bear Heiser is set to run against challenger Courtney Goza. Heiser received around 40% of the vote, while Goza secured 27%. Heiser, too, was 546 votes short of the majority needed for an outright win.

The Leander City Council Place 3 race will see Natomi Blair and Anna Yelaun compete in the runoff, with Blair achieving nearly 47% of the vote. Yelaun is close behind with 40%, but Blair fell 200 votes short of a clear victory.

In Pflugerville, Doug Weiss and Pat McCord will advance to the runoff after Weiss achieved 47% of the votes and McCord received 35%. Weiss was 246 votes away from winning outright, setting the stage for an exciting runoff.

Finally, in San Marcos City Council Place 2, Josh Paselk and incumbent Saul Gonzales will battle it out after Paselk captured 35% of the vote, with Gonzales at 27%. Paselk was 1,107 votes short of the majority, stirring significant interest ahead of the runoff.

As Central Texans prepare for these crucial runoff elections, the stakes could not be higher. Local leaders will play a pivotal role in shaping policies that affect residents’ daily lives. Voter turnout will be critical, and the upcoming weeks will determine which candidates will secure their positions and influence the community.

Stay tuned for further updates as we approach the runoff elections. This is a momentous opportunity for residents to make their voices heard and shape the future of their cities.
