BREAKING: A tragic shooting incident at a storage facility in Covina, California, has left the community in shock as a mother of two, Patricia Villa, was shot and killed while on the job. The horrific event occurred on November 2, 2023, just before closing time around 5 p.m.

The accused gunman, identified as Juan Nava, 66 years old, is now in police custody following the incident. Family members revealed that surveillance footage captured the suspect arriving at the storage facility, preparing for the attack by donning a mask and arming himself. Patricia’s family could not contact her, leading them to drive to the facility, where they found her unresponsive, having been shot five times.

At a vigil attended by hundreds on Saturday, friends, family, and coworkers expressed their grief over the loss of a loving partner and dedicated employee. “Patricia was a non-violent person and… why did this have to happen to her?” questioned her father, Frank Villa. “She brought light to everybody,” said coworker Deann Pancheri, highlighting her positive impact on those around her.

Authorities confirmed that Nava was a customer at the facility and appeared to be experiencing a mental health crisis. Police utilized facial recognition technology to identify him as the suspect. A search of his residence uncovered a cache of firearms, including automatic weapons and handguns.

A GoFundMe page has been established to support Patricia’s family during this devastating time. “I don’t know how anybody could plan for something like this,” Pancheri stated, emphasizing the senselessness of the violence.

As the investigation continues, Nava remains without bail, with his next court appearance scheduled for December 9, 2023. The community is left to grapple with the tragic loss and the urgent need for addressing mental health issues and gun violence.
