Oakland Teen Arrested After Fatal Crash Claims 15-Year-Old

URGENT UPDATE: A tragic car crash in East Oakland has left a 15-year-old girl dead and three other juvenile passengers hospitalized. The incident, which occurred around 9:40 a.m. on Friday, involved a 16-year-old male driver who has since been arrested on charges of vehicular manslaughter and hit and run.

According to authorities, the crash happened near the intersection of 14th Avenue and East 31st Street. The driver of a Toyota Corolla containing five juveniles collided with another vehicle and fled the scene, merging onto Interstate 580. The driver of the struck vehicle pursued the Corolla and provided police with crucial details.

The suspect exited the freeway at 35th Avenue and continued southbound at a dangerously high speed. Tragically, at an intersection in the 3300 block of 35th Avenue, the Corolla was struck by a third vehicle. This collision caused the Corolla to crash into a concrete wall.

Emergency responders rushed all occupants of the Corolla to local hospitals. The 15-year-old girl, who was in a rear passenger seat, succumbed to her injuries less than an hour after the crash. The conditions of the other three girls remain unknown as of Sunday morning. Meanwhile, the male driver was taken to a hospital where he is currently listed in critical but stable condition.
