Nick Kurtz Claims Unanimous AL Rookie of the Year Award
BREAKING: In a stunning announcement, Nick Kurtz of the Athletics has been named the unanimous American League Rookie of the Year, according to league officials. This recognition comes just hours after the awards were revealed on Monday night.
Kurtz, just 22 years old, wowed fans with a remarkable season, hitting .290 with an impressive 36 home runs and 86 RBIs. His 1.002 OPS ranked third in all of MLB, trailing only superstars Aaron Judge and Shohei Ohtani. Despite being called up late in April, Kurtz surged ahead of his peers, finishing 25th in fWAR with 4.6 in 2025.
The highlight of Kurtz’s season came on July 25, when he made history by hitting four home runs in a single game against the Houston Astros. This feat placed him among an elite group of just 20 players in MLB history to achieve such a milestone. Additionally, he showcased his power once more later in the season with another two-home run game against the same team.
In the final voting tally, Kurtz secured all 30 first-place votes, decisively outpacing teammate Jacob Wilson, who received 23 second-place votes. Roman Anthony of the Boston Red Sox rounded out the top three in the voting. Notably, twelve other players from the American League also garnered votes, including Noah Cameron of the Kansas City Royals and Colson Montgomery of the Chicago White Sox, who finished fourth and fifth, respectively.
Due to a new rule implemented in the current Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), Kurtz will receive a full year of service time for winning this prestigious award. However, the Athletics will not gain an extra draft pick since he was not on the major league roster for at least 172 days.
This announcement not only marks a significant achievement for Kurtz but also highlights the potential of the Athletics as they look to build for the future. Fans are eager to see how Kurtz will continue to develop as a key player in the league. As the offseason approaches, all eyes will be on the promising rookie and the impact he will have moving forward.
Stay tuned for further updates on Kurtz’s career and the Athletics’ offseason moves. This is a story that promises to keep unfolding!
