Jimmy Kimmel’s Friend and Bandleader Cleto Escobedo III Dies at 59
BREAKING: Cleto Escobedo III, the beloved bandleader of “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” and childhood friend of host Jimmy Kimmel, has died at the age of 59. Kimmel shared the heartbreaking news via Instagram, stating, “that we are heartbroken is an understatement.” The cause and exact date of Escobedo’s death are currently unknown.
The announcement comes just days after an episode of “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” was abruptly canceled, with guests David Duchovny, Joe Keery, and Madison Beer scheduled to appear. Fans and colleagues alike are mourning the loss of a man who played a significant role in the late-night show’s success.
Escobedo and Kimmel first crossed paths as children in Las Vegas, where they grew up just across the street from each other. “We just met one day on the street… and we kind of had the same sense of humor,” Escobedo recalled in a 2022 interview. Their lifelong friendship blossomed over shared interests, especially their admiration for David Letterman.
Escobedo went on to become a prominent musician, known for his saxophone skills, touring with legends like Phillip Bailey of Earth, Wind and Fire and Paula Abdul. When Kimmel launched his late-night show in 2003, he insisted that Escobedo lead the house band, citing their unique chemistry as a crucial factor.
“Of course I wanted great musicians, but I wanted somebody I had chemistry with,” Kimmel stated in a 2015 interview. “And there’s nobody in my life I have better chemistry with than him.”
In a touching tribute on Escobedo’s 50th birthday in 2016, Kimmel recounted childhood antics, including riding in a sidecar attached to Escobedo’s bicycle. He expressed how their daily collaboration was a dream come true.
Escobedo’s impact extended beyond his music career; he leaves behind his wife Lori and their two children. Kimmel urged fans to cherish their friends and keep Escobedo’s family in their thoughts during this difficult time.
As news of his passing spreads, fans and fellow musicians are expressing their condolences and sharing memories on social media. The legacy of Cleto Escobedo III, both as a talented musician and a cherished friend, will undoubtedly resonate with many.
More updates are expected as the details surrounding Escobedo’s death emerge. Stay tuned for further developments.
