Apple Launches $230 iPhone Pocket, Sparks Online Outrage
BREAKING: Apple has just unveiled its latest product, the iPhone Pocket, a wearable accessory that has ignited fierce debate online. Priced between $149.95 and $229.95, this collaboration with renowned Japanese fashion house ISSEY MIYAKE is set to hit shelves on November 14, 2023, in select countries including the U.S., U.K., Japan, and France.
The iPhone Pocket, described by Apple as “a beautiful way to wear and carry iPhone,” is designed to hold any iPhone model and can be worn around the neck, on the shoulder, or attached to a bag. Crafted using a single 3D-knitted piece of fabric—an innovative technique trademarked by Miyake—the minimalist pouch comes in eight colors for the short-strap version and three for the longer cross-body strap.
The launch is stirring up reactions across social media, with many users expressing disbelief at the hefty price tag. Comments range from humorous to critical, as one user quipped, “Thought this was a parody,” while another sarcastically noted, “Only $150 for a piece of cloth? That’s a bargain.”
Responses have highlighted the nostalgic connection to Apple’s past, referencing the late Steve Jobs, who famously wore Miyake’s black turtlenecks. “ISSEY MIYAKE makes their own fabric in Japan using Japanese labor. It’s gonna be expensive because it’s not cheap s***,” one Reddit user pointed out, emphasizing the craftsmanship behind the product.
However, the overwhelming sentiment on platforms like Twitter and Reddit remains skeptical. As one frustrated user articulated, “People can’t afford groceries, get or even find a job, buy a house, or have kids, and Apple wants folks to pay $230 for a purse my gramma crocheted in 1980? We are living in some wild times…”
The iPhone Pocket is not Apple’s only pricey accessory. Earlier this year, the tech giant introduced a new Crossbody Strap for iPhone, retailing at $59, and protective cases starting at $39.
As the launch date approaches, the conversation surrounding the iPhone Pocket is expected to intensify. Will Apple’s latest accessory win over consumers with its unique design, or will the backlash over its price deter potential buyers?
Stay tuned for further updates on this developing story as we monitor reactions and sales once the iPhone Pocket hits the market.
