Trump Criticizes “Weak Republicans” Over Epstein File Release
Former President Donald Trump has expressed his frustration on Truth Social regarding what he describes as “weak Republicans” demanding the release of files related to Jeffrey Epstein. This comes in the wake of the recent disclosure of Epstein’s emails, which have reignited discussions about the late financier’s connections to various political figures.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump referred to the calls for transparency as a “hoax,” asserting that Epstein’s ties should be regarded as a Democratic issue. He stated, “Epstein was a Democrat, and he is the Democrat’s problem, not the Republican’s problem.” Furthermore, he criticized certain members of his party, labeling them as “soft and foolish” for aligning with calls for the release of Epstein’s documents.
Political Fallout and Bipartisan Support
The push for the release of Epstein files has gained bipartisan momentum, spearheaded by Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) and Rep. Ro Khanna (D-Calif.). House Speaker Mike Johnson has indicated that a vote on the matter could take place as soon as next week. “If we are somehow able to get a two-thirds vote here in the House, that puts a lot of pressure on the Senate,” Massie explained to CNN. He also noted that such a vote would present significant challenges if it were to reach the Senate.
A senior official from the White House revealed that Trump had a meeting with Johnson to discuss the impending vote. The official stated, “It was made clear to President Trump, and he understands that this is an inevitable reality.”
Despite the bipartisan effort, Trump remains defensive. He claims that Democrats are more deeply involved with Epstein and has called for an investigation into their connections. In another Truth Social post, he stated, “I will be asking A.G. Pam Bondi, and the Department of Justice, together with our great patriots at the FBI, to investigate Jeffrey Epstein’s involvement and relationship with Bill Clinton, Larry Summers, Reid Hoffman, J.P. Morgan, Chase, and many other people.”
Trump characterized the situation as another instance of the “Russia, Russia, Russia Scam,” insisting that all evidence points to Democratic involvement.
The ongoing debate reflects the broader political landscape where issues surrounding Epstein and his high-profile connections continue to resonate. As events unfold, the upcoming vote may further complicate the relationships within the Republican Party and their stance on accountability and transparency.
