Mavericks’ Davis Out Another 7-10 Days with Calf Strain
UPDATE: Mavericks power forward/center Anthony Davis will be sidelined for at least another 7-10 days as he recovers from a left calf strain, the team confirmed just moments ago. This marks the ninth consecutive game Davis will miss, including today’s matchup against the Portland Trail Blazers.
The latest timeline for Davis’ return was established following a weekend re-evaluation. Mavs head coach Jason Kidd stated, “He wants to be out there to help us. But this gives him 7 to 10 days to get better or to get stronger. Hopefully, in 7 to 10 days, he’s back on the floor.”
Davis had initially targeted the November 8 game against the Washington Wizards for his return, but the plans changed when Mavs governor Patrick Dumont intervened. Sources revealed Dumont insisted on a thorough medical evaluation before allowing Davis to play, aiming to prevent the risk of aggravating the calf strain or facing a severe injury similar to the one suffered by Tyrese Haliburton during the NBA Finals.
Despite pressure following the controversial trade involving Luka Doncic, which led to the firing of Mavs general manager Nico Harrison, Dumont chose to prioritize Davis’ long-term health. He sided with the Mavs’ director of health and performance, Johann Bilsborough, over clearance from Davis’ personal medical team.
Davis’ injury history is concerning; he has played in only 14 games this season and a few play-in matches since his trade, which was complicated by previous abdominal issues. His rushed return earlier this season resulted in an adductor strain, causing him to miss an additional six weeks.
Fans and analysts alike are awaiting further updates as the Mavericks navigate this challenging period without their star player. The team is hopeful that this additional recovery time will ensure a safer return for Davis, who remains a pivotal part of their lineup.
As the situation develops, Mavs fans are urged to remain patient and supportive of Davis’ recovery efforts. The urgency to protect their asset is paramount given the stakes of the ongoing season.
