UPDATE: In a shocking midnight incident, a toddler in Columbus, Ohio, made a daring escape from his home, captured live on a Ring doorbell camera. Alisa Green, an ICU nurse and mother of three, shared the heart-stopping footage of her 18-month-old son Maverick’s brief venture into the darkness.

The alarming event unfolded at approximately 4 a.m. when Nate Green, Alisa’s husband and a firefighter, received a notification alerting him of “someone at your front door.” Little did he know, it was Maverick, who had managed to unlock the front door and dash outside.

“He had apparently climbed out of his crib, jiggled the bedroom door to unlatch the lock, and unlocked the deadbolt on the front door,” Alisa explained. The family had already been facing sleepless nights after attempting to transition Maverick from his crib to a toddler bed, which he refused to accept.

With security measures in place, including a latch lock on his bedroom door and a gymnastics mat on the floor, Green thought she had done enough to keep her son safe. However, Maverick’s adventurous spirit proved otherwise as he ventured outside for an astonishing 15 seconds before realizing the cold, dark night was no place for a toddler.

Nate reacted swiftly, activating emergency alarms across their home and calling Alisa, who rushed downstairs to find a “panicked screaming toddler” in the living room. “The front door was hanging wide open,” she recalled, a moment of sheer panic turning into relief once she discovered Maverick was unharmed.

When asked why he ventured out at “dark time,” Maverick innocently stated he was going to see his friends in the car. Alisa, amused yet relieved, noted, “Still no clue if the friends were a dream, imaginary or real.”

In response to this alarming incident, the Greens have fortified their home security by adding slide locks to exterior doors and window stoppers, ensuring that Maverick’s explorations are safely contained. The toddler earned the nickname “Danger Baby” for his escapade, a title that reflects both the humor and seriousness of the situation.

Alisa decided to share the footage online to highlight the unpredictable nature of parenting, stating, “We can look back on those videos now and laugh.” Maverick appears to have learned his lesson, recently telling Alisa, “Oh mommy, that was naughty.”

The Greens’ experience serves as a reminder of the vigilance required in parenting, especially during bedtime, a time that can be fraught with challenges. As they continue to navigate the ups and downs of raising young children, Alisa’s story resonates with many parents who can relate to the trials of keeping toddlers safe.

This incident not only underscores the importance of home safety but also the unpredictable and often humorous moments that come with parenthood. As families everywhere prepare for bedtime, the Greens’ experience is a timely reminder to stay vigilant and add those extra security measures.
