UPDATE: A dramatic convergence unfolded on Canal Street in Manhattan as both the NYPD and ICE agents executed raids simultaneously on Saturday morning. In an unexpected twist, police arrived first at a location near Broadway at approximately 10 a.m., targeting counterfeit merchandise.

While the NYPD focused on seizing counterfeit bags, they confiscated a total of 26 items before federal agents arrived on the scene. Authorities confirmed that the NYPD had no prior knowledge of the ICE operation, prompting the officers to leave the area. One individual was arrested in connection with the counterfeit goods.

This federal action follows a meeting between Mayor-elect Mamdani and President Trump at the White House just one day prior. Trump commented on the situation, stating, “If they need it, now other places need it more but if they need it, we had a very good meeting yesterday and we talked about that, but if they need it, I would do it.”

The Department of Homeland Security has since released a statement regarding the ICE operation. They confirmed the detention of an undocumented immigrant from Senegal, who was previously arrested by the NYPD twice. This individual had been released from NYPD custody before ICE could take action.

The dual raids underscore the complex interplay between local and federal law enforcement agencies in addressing counterfeit crimes. As the situation develops, residents and business owners in the area remain on alert for further updates.

Stay tuned for more breaking news as authorities continue to investigate and respond to this unfolding story.
