UPDATE: The victim of a deadly shooting in Richmond has been identified as 23-year-old Josue Cornejo, according to the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office. Cornejo was fatally shot on November 17, marking a tragic incident in the city’s Iron Triangle area.

The shooting occurred at approximately 5:55 a.m. in the 1400 block of Bissell Avenue, where police received multiple alerts from a gunshot detection system alongside numerous calls reporting the shots fired. Officers arrived to find Cornejo suffering from a gunshot wound; he was pronounced dead at the scene, intensifying the urgency surrounding this case.

Richmond police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding Cornejo’s death, which is one of four homicides recorded in the city this year. As of now, officials have not disclosed whether the shots were fired from a passing vehicle or if Cornejo was confronted on the street.
