Andrade Negotiates With WWE to Shorten Non-Compete Clause
Andrade El Idolo is currently in negotiations with WWE to potentially reduce the impact of a twelve-month non-compete clause that has sidelined him since his abrupt return to AEW. Following his surprising appearance on the October 1 edition of *Dynamite*, where he confronted Kenny Omega, Andrade’s presence on television has been notably absent, primarily due to the restrictions stemming from his recent release from WWE in September 2023.
After being terminated by WWE, Andrade reportedly faced multiple wellness violations during his second tenure with the company. The nature of his dismissal under the TKO banner led to the imposition of a non-compete clause that has raised questions regarding its enforceability, particularly in relation to whether it applies solely within the United States or on a global scale. Discrepancies have arisen regarding the implications of this clause, significantly affecting Andrade’s future plans with AEW.
In a recent interview with *DeporTV*, Andrade clarified that WWE only informed him of the length of the non-compete clause after he had returned to AEW. He also touched on his previous relationship with Charlotte Flair, explaining that his participation in the 2024 Royal Rumble was largely motivated by their marriage at the time. With their divorce now finalized, Andrade expressed discomfort with certain aspects of his time in WWE, citing the complexities of medication and supplements that differ between Mexico and the United States.
Andrade revealed that he previously shared a lawyer with Flair, but due to the circumstances surrounding his contract, he could not continue with that representation. He indicated that his lawyer overlooked the twelve-month non-compete clause, which has become a significant hurdle in his career.
Negotiations with WWE are currently ongoing, and Andrade remains optimistic about returning to the ring sooner rather than later. He stated, “I’m going to be three months inactive, and I can’t compete worldwide.” This timeframe suggests a potential return in early 2024, pending WWE’s official confirmation.
The financial and logistical challenges of pursuing legal action have prompted Andrade to seek a resolution through negotiation rather than litigation. He expressed a desire to resolve the clause amicably, stating that he and his lawyer believe they have a potential date for his return, which awaits WWE’s official approval.
While he awaits clarity on his wrestling future, Andrade is focusing on maintaining his fitness and well-being. He described his daily routine, which includes training and leisure activities, stating, “Waking up, having dinner, training, going down to the beach, sunbathing.” This approach reflects his commitment to staying in shape while navigating this challenging period in his career.
As developments unfold, fans and followers of Andrade El Idolo are left anticipating not only his return to the ring but also how negotiations with WWE will shape his future in professional wrestling.
