Brandy Apologizes After Abrupt Exit from Chicago Concert

R&B singer Brandy has publicly addressed her sudden departure from the stage during a concert in Chicago on March 16, 2024. While performing at the United Center as part of “The Boy is Mine Tour,” Brandy left her co-star Monica to finish the show alone after she walked off mid-performance.

Witnesses reported that Brandy abruptly stopped singing and informed the audience, “Give me one second, y’all, I gotta get my …,” before heading backstage. The incident left Monica to conclude the performance with their iconic 1998 hit, “The Boy is Mine,” which remains a staple of both artists’ careers.

In a heartfelt Facebook post addressed to her fans, Brandy explained that she experienced dehydration during the performance, which made her feel faint. She expressed her gratitude for the audience’s support and offered an apology for the unexpected end to her set.

Brandy’s statement read in part, “I sincerely apologize for the abrupt end to last night’s performance in Chicago. After weeks of nonstop rehearsals, last night I experienced dehydration and feelings of wanting to faint. Everyone involved agreed that prioritizing my well-being was of the utmost importance.”

She acknowledged the technical challenges of the show, stating, “With having to make some adjustments and the show being very technical, unfortunately, it was impossible to fully connect sonically with the production.”

Brandy also extended her appreciation to Monica for her professionalism and to the crew for their support. “I’m deeply grateful to my sister, Monica, for stepping up with such grace,” she stated.

Following the incident, Brandy sought medical attention and assured fans that she was taking the necessary precautions to ensure her health. “I went from the arena to see a doctor nearby and have taken the proper precautions to help moving forward,” she shared.

Looking ahead, Brandy expressed her eagerness to return to the stage, stating, “I look forward to returning to the stage — stronger and more grateful than ever — alongside my girl, Monica, Sunday night in Indianapolis.”

“The Boy is Mine Tour” began just days earlier, with the first performance taking place in Cincinnati on March 14, 2024. The tour celebrates the enduring success of their collaboration on “The Boy Is Mine,” which was the lead single from Brandy’s 1998 album, “Never Say Never,” and Monica’s self-titled debut album. The song reached the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart and won a Grammy Award in 1999 for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group.

Brandy and Monica have previously collaborated on other projects, including the 2012 track “It All Belongs to Me.” As the tour continues, fans remain supportive and hopeful for their upcoming performances.
