A feature-length special of the popular series Harry Wild has premiered on Acorn TV, showcasing the charismatic Jane Seymour as she reprises her role as the retired literature professor turned amateur sleuth. The episode follows Harry, along with her protégé Fergus Reid, as they attempt to track down an international assassin in a quaint Irish village.

The narrative kicks off dramatically at Dublin Airport, where a woman is shot by a silencer-equipped gun while loading her luggage. The scene quickly shifts to a small coastal town where Harry and Fergus are en route to a wedding at a local castle. This wedding is between DS Vicky Boyle and Cormac Hanrahan, a Garda officer who happens to be Harry’s son Charlie’s colleague. The episode features a host of supporting characters, including Charlie’s wife Orla and their daughter Lola, along with various locals who contribute to the story’s dynamics.

As Harry and Fergus arrive at the castle, they are greeted by the owner, Charlotte Knightley-Flood, and her younger husband, Johnny. Their controversial relationship stirs gossip among the town’s older residents, particularly concerning Johnny’s plans for the castle’s future. While enjoying some downtime at a local pub filled with attendees of a J.R.R. Tolkien convention, Harry suspects two American visitors of being FBI agents, eventually leading to an encounter with Special Agent Danielle Draper.

The plot thickens when Harry discovers a case board indicating the presence of an international assassin known as DIYU. With her keen intuition, she suspects that DIYU is in town, and her investigation begins. As she unravels the mystery, Harry deduces that Johnny may be in danger after noticing signs of poisoning on him, a detail she recalls from her extensive reading.

The FBI’s plan to use Johnny as bait backfires when he panics and flees, leading to a series of kidnappings involving wedding guests. While the tension builds, Harry enlists the help of her friends Glenn and Concepta, who are tasked with gathering information back in Dublin.

Despite the engaging setup, the special has received mixed reviews. Critics note that while the character interactions are enjoyable, the plot relies heavily on coincidences and convenient outcomes. The blend of comedy and mystery, while charming, leaves some viewers wanting a more complex narrative.

Harry Wild’s essence resonates through its character-driven moments, such as Fergus’s awkward attempts to discuss a long-distance relationship with Lola and Harry’s reflections on her future with her partner, also named Harry.

Although the mystery may not be as robust as some might hope, the chemistry among the cast, particularly Jane Seymour’s performance, continues to shine. For fans of the series, the special is a delightful experience worth streaming, showcasing the unique blend of charm and intrigue that has made Harry Wild a standout on Acorn TV.

New subscribers to Acorn TV can take advantage of a promotional offer, allowing them to access the service for just $2.25 per month for the first two months, after which the subscription will be $8.99 monthly.
