Millay House Rockland will open its doors to the public during Rockland’s Festival of Lights on Saturday, November 29, 2025, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. The double house, located at 198 Broadway, is the birthplace of the renowned Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Edna St. Vincent Millay. This event offers a unique opportunity for visitors to explore the house and learn more about its historical significance.

Edna St. Vincent Millay, who grew up in nearby Union and Camden, graduated from Vassar College before gaining fame for her literary contributions. She published poetry, short stories, and even the libretto for an opera. During the Roaring ’20s, her dramatic poetry readings captivated audiences nationwide, making her one of the most celebrated women in America.

Guests at the open house can enjoy homemade cookies and hot cider while discovering the Writer-in-Residence program and the organization’s plans for the upcoming year. The event also marks the launch of the 2025-26 Millay House membership campaign, inviting attendees to support the mission of this nonprofit organization dedicated to fostering the arts.

The Millay House not only honors Edna St. Vincent Millay’s legacy but also celebrates the rich cultural heritage of Midcoast Maine. Central to its mission is the rejuvenation of this literary landmark, which serves as a beacon for writers and artists alike.

Due to limited parking at the Millay House, visitors are encouraged to park at the Rockland Congregational Church located at 180 Limerock St. or the Burpee Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home at 110 Limerock St..
