‘SNL’ Features Taylor Swift and Domingo in Musical Cold Open

The latest episode of Saturday Night Live showcased host and musical guest Sabrina Carpenter in a vibrant cold open that incorporated music and humor. This sketch marked the fourth appearance of the character Domingo, played by Marcello Hernández, who has become a recurring figure on the show since his debut in October 2022.
As the sketch unfolded, the newly married couple Kelsey and Matt, portrayed by Chloe Fineman and Andrew Dismukes, celebrated Matt’s 30th birthday. Kelsey’s friends, including Carpenter, Sarah Sherman, Ashley Padilla, and newcomer Veronika Slowikowska, surprised the birthday boy with a musical serenade. The group began with a song inspired by their recent trip to Nashville, set to the tune of Taylor Swift’s “The Fate of Ophelia,” from her latest album, The Life of a Showgirl.
The comedic twist unfolded as the friends revealed that Domingo had made an appearance during their Nashville trip. Undeterred, they transitioned into a second song set to Lady Gaga‘s “Abracadabra,” which humorously focused on Domingo, described as “the man with a goatee and a gold chain.” Just as Kelsey reassured Matt that Domingo was now a thing of the past, the character made an entrance, performing his own rendition of Alex Warren‘s “Ordinary.”
Domingo’s performance included cheeky lyrics that humorously acknowledged his past connection with Kelsey: “I know that you took a vow / But I am so well-endowed.” The sketch concluded with an exasperated Matt telling Kelsey, “I’m serious, this is strike six,” to which she responded, “Hey babe, it won’t happen again.”
This sketch continues the tradition of integrating musical themes into the show. Previous installments featuring Domingo have included references to popular songs, creating a lively atmosphere that resonates with audiences. Notably, Carpenter appeared in the third Domingo sketch during the show’s 50th Anniversary Special, which also featured an impressive lineup of guest stars, including Martin Short, Molly Shannon, Pedro Pascal, and Bad Bunny.
As the series continues to evolve, the recurring character Domingo has become a fan favorite, highlighting the blend of musical performance and comedy that Saturday Night Live is known for. The musical cold open not only showcased the talents of its cast but also celebrated contemporary music culture, keeping the show relevant and engaging for its audience.
