Star-Studded Lineup Set for Concert Honoring Altadena Fire Victims
A concert featuring prominent artists will take place on January 7, 2024, to commemorate the one-year anniversary of the Palisades and Eaton fires in Southern California. The event, titled “Concert for Altadena,” is organized by the Los Angeles-based folk rock band Dawes and will be held at the Pasadena Civic Center.
The concert will showcase a remarkable lineup of performers, including Brad Paisley, Mandy Moore, Jackson Browne, Brandon Flowers, Aloe Blacc, and Stephen Stills. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Altadena Builds Back Foundation, which focuses on long-term housing recovery following the Eaton fire, as well as the Pasadena Community Foundation’s Eaton Fire Relief & Recovery Fund. This fund supports community-based nonprofit organizations assisting families affected by the devastating fire.
The January fires had a profound impact on many musicians, some of whom lost their homes and instruments. Notably, Brad Paisley and Aloe Blacc experienced significant losses. Paisley’s first home burned down in the Palisades fire, while Blacc’s family lost multiple properties, including the Pasadena Waldorf School attended by his children. Blacc has been actively involved in rebuilding efforts through his philanthropy organization, The Change Reaction, which provides direct financial assistance to those affected.
In a personal reflection, Mandy Moore shared on Instagram a photo of her fire-destroyed Altadena home, noting that “the contents of our home are a near total loss.” Fellow artist Jenny Lewis also experienced the fires firsthand, having evacuated her home due to the flames on the eve of her birthday.
Dawes’ members, Taylor and Griffin Goldsmith, are among those who lost their homes and recording studio in the Eaton fire. Their parents also lost their Altadena home, as well as their childhood home in Malibu. The band has previously performed with notable musicians such as Stephen Stills and Graham Nash for charity events like FireAid. Furthermore, they released a cover of Randy Newman’s “I Love L.A.” to benefit MusiCares, which pledged $1 million to support music professionals affected by the January fires.
Dawes expressed their thoughts about the upcoming concert, stating, “It’s gonna be a heavy night but it’s going to be a beautiful one, too.” Music lovers interested in attending can register for presale tickets at https://dawestheband.com/. General ticket sales will begin at 10 a.m. Pacific Time on November 7, 2023.
This concert not only serves as an opportunity to honor those affected by the fires but also reflects the resilience and unity of the Altadena community. The artists involved, many of whom are personally connected to the tragedy, are using their platforms to aid in the recovery process and bring attention to the ongoing needs of fire survivors.
