42 Artists Achieve Diamond Certification Milestone in Music Industry
The music landscape has witnessed a remarkable achievement as only 42 artists have multiple songs certified diamond by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). This prestigious accolade is awarded to songs that have sold at least 10 million equivalent units, combining both sales and streaming figures. Since the launch of the diamond certification in 1999, over 170 songs have received this honor, but only a select few artists have managed to secure multiple certifications.
Drake leads the pack with an impressive record of 15 diamond-certified songs, solidifying his position as a dominant force in the music industry. Following closely is Post Malone, who boasts nine certifications. Among female artists, Rihanna holds the record, having achieved diamond status for several of her hits.
The RIAA’s diamond award, which recognizes extraordinary sales achievements, has been awarded selectively over the years. In order to qualify, a song must be requested for certification by an artist or label. The rigorous standards contribute to the honor’s prestige.
Artists Making History with Diamond Certifications
Among the notable artists with multiple diamond certifications is Justin Bieber, whose song “Baby” became only the second song ever to achieve diamond status on May 9, 2013. Additionally, he earned certifications for “Despacito” in 2018, “Sorry” in 2021, and “Stay” in 2023.
Another significant artist, Eminem, achieved his first diamond award with “Not Afraid” on June 10, 2014, and subsequently received certifications for “Lose Yourself” and “Love the Way You Lie” in 2018.
Lady Gaga also made her mark, receiving two diamond certifications in 2015 for “Bad Romance” and “Poker Face,” later adding “Just Dance” in 2023. The band Imagine Dragons holds the record for the most diamond-certified songs by a group, with four including “Radioactive” and “Thunder.”
Other Notable Achievements
Bruno Mars has amassed a total of seven diamond songs, while Katy Perry has achieved six, including her recent certifications for “California Gurls” and “Teenage Dream.” Perry’s “Teenage Dream” notably became the first album to feature four diamond-certified tracks.
In the country genre, Florida Georgia Line and Luke Combs have each secured multiple diamond certifications, with Combs being recognized for hits like “Beautiful Crazy” and “When It Rains It Pours.”
The impact of these certifications highlights the artists’ ability to resonate with audiences across the globe. Each diamond certification not only signifies commercial success but also marks a cultural moment in music history.
As the industry continues to evolve, the significance of these achievements remains clear. The RIAA’s diamond certification serves as a benchmark for artists striving for excellence in their craft, reinforcing the notion that music transcends borders and unites listeners worldwide.
