Fresno Mission and Food Bank Unite for One Table Fresno Event
The Fresno Mission and Central California Food Bank are joining forces to host the fifth annual One Table Fresno community meal, aimed at providing support to families in need. Scheduled for November 22, 2023, the event will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the City Center, located at 2025 E. Dakota Ave. in Fresno. This initiative represents a significant effort by two of the city’s largest nonprofit organizations to address food insecurity during the holiday season.
The One Table Fresno event will serve 4,500 hot steak meals to families facing challenges. Originally launched in 2021 in Downtown Fresno, this year’s gathering will not only provide meals but also distribute 4,500 coats for children and adults. In addition, attendees will receive over 1,000 turkeys and holiday bags containing non-perishable food items to ensure that families can complete their holiday meals.
Community Support and Engagement
The City Center has become a vital hub for nonprofit organizations and support services, including a newly opened 73-room housing facility for individuals and families in crisis. The center aims to be a comprehensive resource for those in need, offering a variety of assistance programs.
“This collaborative event represents the ongoing commitment of both the Fresno Mission and Central California Food Bank to provide resources, hope, and support for Fresno’s families,” the Fresno Mission stated in a press release. The event is designed to create a welcoming space that encourages unity and connection among community members.
Families attending the event can participate in a resource fair, explore a family fun zone, and enjoy photo opportunities with Santa Claus. This holistic approach aims not only to provide meals but also to foster a sense of belonging and dignity among participants.
Volunteer Opportunities and Community Impact
Volunteers play a crucial role in the success of One Table Fresno. While many positions for the event day have been filled, there are still opportunities to assist in preparation leading up to November 22. Interested individuals can sign up through the Fresno Mission’s website.
“One Table Fresno is more than a meal — it’s a moment where our entire city comes together as one family,” said Matt Dildine, CEO of the Fresno Mission. “When people sit at the table, they feel dignity and belonging. That’s what this is all about.”
In addition to meals and coats, attendees will have access to various expert partners from the City Center, who will offer services in mental health care, education, foster youth support, and addiction recovery. This comprehensive approach underscores the commitment of the Fresno Mission and Central California Food Bank to uplift the community by addressing not just immediate needs but also long-term support systems.
As the event approaches, the collaboration between these two organizations exemplifies the power of community engagement and collective action in addressing the challenges faced by many families during the holiday season.
