Impact Community Supports Empowers Families Through Local Resources
Impact Community Supports Inc. is transforming neighborhoods by empowering families through existing local resources. Founded in 2020 by former school principal Michael McCline, the organization aims to enhance safety, health, and financial stability by connecting individuals to essential services such as job readiness and financial literacy training.
McCline’s vision emerged from his experiences as a principal in a high-poverty area, where he witnessed firsthand the challenges faced by students and families. During the pandemic, he recognized a critical need for emotional support rather than just academic assessment. This prompted him to establish Impact Community Supports, which has since evolved into a collaborative network aimed at fostering positive growth among young people and their families.
Connecting Communities for Lasting Change
The coalition model employed by Impact Community Supports involves collaboration among various community sectors, including schools, nonprofits, and mental wellness providers. Most referrals originate from teachers and school administrators who identify students in need of additional support. McCline facilitates these connections, ensuring that families are engaged and informed throughout the process.
According to McCline, many referrals relate to students facing emotional challenges, experimenting with risky behaviors, or exhibiting disciplinary issues. “A student may be referred after showing patterns of behavior that suggest they would benefit from guidance,” he explains. By connecting families with trusted providers, McCline aims to direct students towards positive outcomes rather than punitive measures.
Parents and caregivers play a pivotal role in this process, as their consent is required for any referrals involving minors. This involvement not only allows families to access necessary resources but also fosters a supportive environment that extends beyond the classroom. Through surveys and conversations, McCline gathers insights on family needs, including interest in financial literacy training and job readiness coaching.
Building Resilience Through Community Engagement
The success of Impact Community Supports is largely attributed to its commitment to community engagement. Volunteers actively participate in local activities and educational programs that promote character development and resilience among youth. This approach leverages evidence-based practices and social determinants of health, enabling communities to address their challenges using available resources.
From its inception, the organization has demonstrated a strong commitment to service. Initially operating without funding, McCline collaborated with local groups to provide essential services, such as coat drives and neighborhood assistance. Today, he leads a dedicated team of five professionals who manage various operational aspects while he focuses on relationship-building and coalition coordination.
McCline envisions expanding Impact Community Supports into additional counties and zip codes, aiming for a future where every community has access to similar collaborative support structures. “When people have the tools to find work, manage their finances, and contribute to the local economy, families can flourish, schools can thrive, and neighborhoods can become more resilient,” he asserts.
To sustain and expand its initiatives, the organization seeks greater visibility and support from foundations and partners who share a commitment to community-centered solutions. Increased funding would enable Impact Community Supports to enhance its service offerings, particularly in areas like prevention education and financial literacy.
“Impact Community Supports helps people and families feel seen, supported, and guided toward brighter possibilities,” McCline states. The organization invites community leaders and potential partners to learn more and join its mission to cultivate environments where everyone has the opportunity to grow and thrive.
