Local Chanukah Events to Support Food Donations in Mobile Area
Chabad of Mobile has announced two community celebrations for this year’s Chanukah, which begins on December 8, 2023. These events will not only mark the holiday but also aim to support local families in need through food donations. Participants are encouraged to contribute canned goods for the “CAN-NORAH,” a unique menorah constructed entirely from food items, which will be donated to the Feeding the Gulf Coast food bank.
The celebrations will feature a special menorah lighting ceremony attended by the newly elected Mayor, Spiro Cheriogotis. This initiative highlights the spirit of giving during the holiday season, as all donated cans will directly benefit those facing food insecurity in the Mobile and Baldwin County areas.
How the Donation Process Works
Over the next three weeks, individuals and families are invited to donate canned goods. Donations can be dropped off at Chabad or monetary contributions can be made to purchase food items. The culmination of these efforts will take place during the Chanukah events, where volunteers will construct the CAN-NORAH using the collected donations before lighting it in celebration.
After the festivities, all donated cans will be delivered to Feeding the Gulf Coast, ensuring that local families receive the support they need. This partnership emphasizes the importance of community involvement and the power of collective action in addressing hunger.
Events like these not only foster a sense of community but also highlight the significance of caring for those less fortunate. Chabad of Mobile encourages everyone to participate, emphasizing that together, we can make a tangible difference in improving lives during this festive season.
