Oi Shiba Ramen Restaurant Set to Move to Convoy Street
Oi Shiba, a well-known ramen restaurant based in San Diego, is relocating to a new address at 4428 Convoy St, Suite 120. This change will see the establishment move into the former location of Da Nang Corner, as indicated by a recent liquor license application. While an exact opening date has yet to be confirmed, the new site positions Oi Shiba in one of the city’s vibrant culinary zones.
Customers can look forward to Oi Shiba’s signature offerings, including the beloved White Shiba, Red Shiba, Black Shiba, and Veggie Shiba ramen bowls. The menu also features inventive side dishes such as takoyaki, karaage, and Japanese-inspired yubu bites, appealing to a wide range of tastes.
Transition to a New Location
Previously located at 909 Grand Avenue in Pacific Beach, Oi Shiba has cultivated a reputation for its cozy and casual dining atmosphere focused on ramen. The restaurant’s name combines the Japanese word for “delicious” with the Shiba Inu dog breed, reflecting a playful and inviting brand identity. After approximately a year of operation, the Pacific Beach location closed earlier this summer.
The new site on Convoy Street is part of a bustling restaurant corridor that has recently welcomed several new tenants. Notably, Hongdae Dakgalbi is set to open next door in early December, filling the space previously occupied by Nice 2 Meet U Chuan Chuan Hot Pot.
Menu Highlights and Culinary Expertise
Oi Shiba’s menu is designed to cater to a variety of preferences, featuring ramen bowls crafted with different broths and house-made sauces. Seasonal and signature beverages such as sparkling yuzu lemonade, peach lemonade, honeydew lemonade, and a selection of hot teas complement the dining experience. For health-conscious diners, many dishes can be prepared with lighter sodium upon request, ensuring that all menu items are made to order.
Leading Oi Shiba is Franklin Chou, a seasoned restaurateur with extensive experience in the San Diego dining scene. Chou has previously opened and operated multiple successful concepts, including Steamy Piggy, Formoosa, Flama Llama, Bok Bok Dok, and VietNom. His focus on casual, approachable Japanese comfort food emphasizes both flavor and presentation.
The move to Convoy Street represents a strategic step for Oi Shiba as it aims to expand its reach and engage with a broader audience within San Diego’s dynamic food landscape. As the opening date approaches, anticipation builds for Oi Shiba’s return to the culinary scene with its unique offerings and welcoming atmosphere.
