Plantation Shoppe Delivers Unique Christmas Gifts to Wayne County
Residents of Wayne County have a long-standing destination for holiday shopping in the Plantation Shoppe, which has been providing a diverse range of gifts and collectibles for over 40 years. Located at 307 N. Spence Ave. in Cobblestone Place, the family-owned store continues to thrive, especially during the festive season.
Since its opening in November 1983, the shop has expanded its offerings from antiques to a broad selection of gifts, including candles, pottery, plush toys, and collectible items. Co-manager Andy Gray noted that the store is currently featuring a 40% holiday discount on popular Byers Choice Christmas Carolers. “We’re mainly using collectibles now,” Gray explained, emphasizing the shift from antiques to more contemporary gift items.
Holiday Offerings at Plantation Shoppe
The busy holiday season brings an influx of customers seeking unique Christmas-themed products. The store boasts a range of items, including Christmas tree ornaments, night lights, and Fontanini Nativity sets. “At this time of year, it is the most popular,” Gray remarked about the nativity sets, highlighting that six new pieces were introduced this year.
In addition to traditional holiday decorations, the store also stocks collegiate-themed ornaments representing local universities such as the University of North Carolina, N.C. State University, Eastern Carolina University, and Western Carolina University. Gray aims to maximize sales of holiday-themed items, which will remain available even after New Year’s Day. “The Christmas villages stay out all year long,” she added.
Challenges and Community Support
Despite the success of the Plantation Shoppe, Gray acknowledged the challenges faced by small businesses. Many gift shops in the area have closed over the years, and both she and her mother, owner Joyce Edwards, are considering retirement. Nonetheless, they find joy in the continued support from the community.
“Somebody comes in and says, ‘I love your shop. I was wondering if you all were still open. I’m just so glad you’re still here,’” Gray recounted, reflecting on the positive feedback they receive from customers. This affirmation continues to motivate them as they navigate the changing landscape of retail.
As the holiday season progresses, the Plantation Shoppe remains committed to providing Wayne County residents with a unique shopping experience, ensuring that there is something special for everyone.
