Oregon voters have missed the deadline to register for the upcoming Special Election scheduled for November 4, 2025. The registration period officially closed on October 14, prompting reminders from Secretary of State Tobias Read. In a recent statement, Read emphasized, “Every election counts, especially right now,” highlighting the importance of civic engagement in these local matters.

The Special Election will address several critical issues affecting communities throughout the state. Key topics include safety upgrades for local school districts and tax levies aimed at supporting community resources. While special elections often receive less attention than general elections, their outcomes significantly influence local governance, impacting areas such as school safety, tax structures, and funding for essential services.

With registration now closed, counties across Oregon are preparing to mail out ballots. This process began immediately after the deadline, with ballots set to include important decisions regarding the Lake Oswego and West Linn-Wilsonville school bonds, as well as a proposed transient lodging tax increase in Medford. Numerous levies will also be on the ballot, affecting public safety, parks, and libraries.

Not all counties will participate in this election. Only specific regions, including Baker County and Clackamas County, will host this election cycle. Each county’s clerk’s office is poised to distribute ballots to ensure all eligible voters can make their voices heard. Voters uncertain about their registration status or needing to update their information can utilize the My Vote tool for necessary adjustments.

As the election date approaches, voters are encouraged to complete and return their ballots by 8 p.m. on Election Day. Those mailing their ballots are advised to send them no later than October 30 to ensure timely arrival. After that date, voters should either visit a local USPS office for a postmark by November 4 or drop their ballots in one of the secure drop boxes listed at OregonVotes.gov.

The closure of voter registration marks not the end but a transition to the next phase of the electoral process. As ballots are prepared for distribution, the emphasis remains on the importance of participation in shaping local governance and addressing issues that matter most to Oregonians.
