Remembering William Plant: A Life of Service and Love
William (Bill) Plant, a dedicated family man and community servant, passed away in Torrance, California. Born in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, Bill led a life marked by service, love, and deep connections with his family and community.
Bill Plant served in the United States Coast Guard, where he worked as a radioman stationed in diverse locations including Newfoundland, California, and the South Pacific. A pivotal moment in his life came in the spring of 1962 while he was stationed at the Point Vicente Lighthouse. During a trip to Redondo Beach, he met Jeannine, the woman who would become his lifelong partner. They married later that year in December, embarking on a journey together that lasted for more than six decades.
The couple settled in South Redondo, where Jeannine purchased their forever home while Bill was on the small island of Ulithi. Following his eight years of service in the Coast Guard, Bill joined the Redondo Beach Police Department. He dedicated nearly 30 years to law enforcement, contributing significantly to the safety and well-being of his community.
Outside of work, Bill had a passion for maintaining his home and cultivating a vibrant garden that attracted hummingbirds and monarch butterflies. He enjoyed reading and spending time observing the ocean and its wildlife from the Esplanade. Yet, his greatest joy came from spending quality time with his family, particularly with his beloved wife, Jeannine.
Bill is survived by Jeannine, their three children—Nathan (Jennifer), Adam (Miki), and Sara (Sam)—as well as his sister, Virginia (Richard), and a network of extended family and friends.
A private celebration of Bill’s life will be held at a later time, allowing those who knew him to honor and remember a man whose legacy of love and service will endure.
