Carolina Panthers quarterback Bryce Young missed practice for the second consecutive day on Thursday due to a right ankle injury. Young sustained the injury during the Panthers’ 13-6 victory over the New York Jets last Sunday, leaving the game in the third quarter. His absence raises concerns as the team prepares for their home game against the Buffalo Bills this upcoming Sunday.

Panthers head coach Dave Canales described Young’s status as “day-to-day,” indicating that the team is closely monitoring his recovery. Young underwent an MRI earlier in the week, which ruled out any major damage. Despite the positive news regarding the severity of the injury, Young has not participated in practice this week, suggesting that veteran Andy Dalton will likely take the helm if Young is unable to play.

In his third NFL season, the 24-year-old Young has recorded impressive statistics, passing for 1,288 yards, with 11 touchdowns and five interceptions over seven games. Dalton, who is preparing to step in if needed, has played in three games this season, completing 9 of 13 passes for 118 yards and one touchdown. Notably, Dalton replaced Young during the game against the Jets, completing 4 of 7 attempts for 60 yards.

Dalton, who turns 38 on October 29, 2023, is in his third season with the Panthers. His experience includes three Pro Bowl selections during his nine seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals. The 15-year veteran has had a varied career, navigating through multiple teams in the league.

In addition to Young’s injury, defensive tackle Cam Jackson was added to the injury report due to illness and did not practice on Thursday. The Panthers will be looking to solidify their roster as they prepare to face the Bills, which presents a crucial challenge for the team.

As the week progresses, the Panthers will continue to assess Young’s recovery, aiming for a strong performance against a formidable opponent in Buffalo.
