Colfax-Mingo Football Concludes Season with 59-0 Loss to Madrid

The Colfax-Mingo football team ended their season on October 27, 2023, with a significant defeat against Madrid, losing 59-0 in a district matchup. This marked the Tigerhawks’ first shutout of the season and capped off a challenging campaign, finishing with an overall record of 0-8 and 0-6 in district play.

Madrid, having secured the second seed in the district the previous week, showcased a commanding performance at home. The Tigers demonstrated their offensive strength by accumulating an impressive 316 rushing yards during the game. In the last two seasons, they have outscored Colfax-Mingo a staggering total of 126-6.

Fisher Grove led the Tigerhawks’ offensive efforts, rushing for 74 yards on 16 carries, along with 19 yards from three receptions. Wyatt Jay contributed with 25 rushing yards on nine attempts and added a 29-yard reception. The Tigerhawks also relied on Camden Cunningham to direct their passing game, where he threw for 61 yards, albeit with two interceptions. Defensively, Cunningham topped the team with six tackles, while Kyle Wood followed closely with 5.5 tackles. Wyatt Thornton made a notable play by recovering a fumble.

Madrid’s offensive performance was equally impressive, led by Loken Velkey, who achieved 56 passing yards and 70 rushing yards, including one touchdown. Easton Halverson added to the Tigers’ tally with 98 rushing yards on just six carries. The Tigers’ defense was relentless, recording nine tackles for loss and two sacks during the game. Kinnick Grimm had a standout performance, scoring a defensive touchdown, making an interception, and returning a punt for another touchdown.

Looking ahead, Madrid will enter postseason play, facing North Butler on November 3, 2023, at 19:00 in Madrid. The Tigers aim to capitalize on their strong finish to the regular season as they pursue advancement in the playoffs.
