Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. will not participate in the upcoming game against the Houston Texans due to an ankle injury. This absence leaves the Jaguars without their top two receivers, as Travis Hunter is sidelined on injured reserve with a knee issue. Thomas leads the team with 30 receptions and 420 receiving yards this season.

In addition to Thomas and Hunter, the Jaguars are facing further setbacks with Dyami Brown still in concussion protocol. Brown, who has made 19 catches for 219 yards, is also unavailable for the match. The Jaguars recently bolstered their receiving corps by trading for Jakobi Meyers, who has 33 receptions for 352 yards this season. He is expected to step up alongside Parker Washington (25 catches, 297 yards) and Tim Patrick (4 catches, 63 yards) as the key targets against the Texans.

Coaches and Players Prepare for Challenges

Jaguars head coach Liam Coen acknowledged the impact of Thomas’s absence, citing his previous performances against the Texans. “BT can roll, and he rises to playing against these guys; he has in the past and had a huge moment for us in that game last time to seal that victory,” Coen stated. “Not having him is a big deal for us, and those guys are going to continue to have to step up again this week and go make some dirty, grimy, contested plays, and that’s the kind of game it’s going to have to be.”

Other players likely missing the game include cornerback Jourdan Lewis (neck), left guard Ezra Cleveland (knee/ankle), and tight end Hunter Long (hip/knee), all of whom did not practice throughout the week leading up to the matchup.

The Jaguars will need to adapt quickly as they prepare to face the Texans on Sunday. With the absence of key players, the team must rely on its depth and strategize effectively to maintain competitiveness in the game.
