Local football teams in Oregon faced off this past weekend, with the Warrenton Warriors achieving a crucial victory, the Seaside Seagulls dominating at home, and the Astoria Fishermen experiencing a disappointing senior night. Clatskanie also continued its impressive season with a narrow win over Knappa.

Warrenton Warriors Overcome Adversity

In a pivotal match on October 28, 2025, the Warrenton Warriors rallied from a challenging first half to defeat the Yamhill-Carlton Tigers 21-7. This victory significantly boosts Warrenton’s playoff aspirations, improving their record to 5-2 overall and 4-1 in league play.

Despite a wet ball and difficult weather conditions, senior quarterback Zephan Pierce shone in the second half. He threw for three touchdowns, connecting twice with sophomore Dylan Ballard and once with Eli Neahring. Pierce amassed 227 passing yards and added 66 rushing yards, while Ballard contributed 85 rushing yards and 102 receiving yards.

Head coach Travis Freeman praised his team’s resilience, particularly noting Pierce’s performance. “Zephan played lights out,” Freeman remarked, highlighting the adjustments made during halftime that led to their offensive success. The Warriors are now positioned third in the league, trailing behind Banks and Kennedy, with a critical game against Banks scheduled for this Friday.

Seaside Seagulls Dominate at Home

The Seaside Seagulls returned to Broadway Field to face the St. Helens Lions, securing a resounding 55-7 victory. This win marked a triumphant homecoming after five consecutive away games, lifting Seaside’s record to 4-4 overall and 3-1 in league play.

Sophomore Trey McCleary stepped up in the absence of senior Ryder Jackson, rushing for 235 yards and scoring five touchdowns on just 18 carries. Quarterback Brayden Cooley also delivered an impressive performance, completing all four of his pass attempts for 114 yards and two touchdowns.

The Seagulls now prepare for a significant matchup against the Tillamook Cheesemakers, who are currently ranked No. 5 in 4A, as they look to solidify their playoff positioning on Halloween night.

Astoria Fishermen Falter on Senior Night

The Astoria Fishermen faced a challenging opponent in the No. 3 ranked Scappoose Indians, resulting in a 33-7 defeat on senior night. Despite a strong start that kept them within striking distance in the first half, the Fishermen were unable to maintain momentum, bringing their record to 3-5.

Astoria’s final regular-season game against St. Helens will be crucial. A victory could secure a playoff spot as a fourth-place team, while a loss would end their season on a disappointing note.

Clatskanie Tigers Extend Undefeated Streak

In a compelling Thursday night matchup, the Clatskanie Tigers edged past Knappa with a score of 21-14, improving their record to an impressive 8-0. The game showcased a fierce defensive battle, but Clatskanie managed to secure the win, while Knappa fell to 6-1.

Despite the loss, Knappa remains ranked No. 3 in the 2A standings and is still in contention for a home playoff game. The outcome of their next game against Vernonia will determine their playoff position.

As the local football scene heats up, teams are gearing up for the final stretch of the season, with playoff implications on the line.
