Mater Dei Leads Orange County Girls Volleyball Rankings Ahead of CIF-SS Playoffs

The Orange County girls volleyball scene is heating up as the CIF Southern Section (CIF-SS) playoffs approach. The top-ranked team entering the playoffs is Mater Dei, boasting a remarkable record of 28-4 after an undefeated run in the Trinity League, finishing at 6-0. They are set to compete in the Division 1 playoffs, where they secured the third seed.

Meanwhile, Los Alamitos follows closely behind, holding the second position with a record of 27-8. The Griffins achieved a perfect 12-0 in the Sunset League, earning them the league championship. They will face off against San Juan Hills, the South Coast League champions, in the first round of the playoffs on Wednesday.

Top Teams Set for Playoff Action

San Juan Hills, with a solid record of 20-5, also enters the playoffs with confidence after sweeping the South Coast League with an 8-0 record. Their playoff match against Los Alamitos promises to be a highlight of the first round.

The Newport Harbor Sailors, holding a record of 25-8, finished second in the Sunset League with a 10-2 record. Their only league losses came at the hands of Los Alamitos. Newport Harbor will compete against Mira Costa in their first playoff match.

In the Freeway League, Crean Lutheran achieved a commendable record of 24-2, with a 7-1 league performance that secured them the league title. They will play against Harvard-Westlake on Wednesday in the Division 1 playoffs.

Challengers in the Division 2 Playoffs

The San Clemente Tritons, with an impressive 24-10 record, dominated the Sea View League, finishing 8-0. They will host Louisville in a first-round matchup on October 21.

Other notable teams include Santa Margarita, who qualified for the Division 2 playoffs after finishing second in the Trinity League. The Eagles will take on Los Osos at home. JSerra, finishing third in the Trinity League, has also secured an at-large berth in the Division 2 playoffs and will face Windward at home.

Despite struggling in the Trinity League, Orange Lutheran managed to qualify for the Division 2 playoffs as an at-large team. They will compete against Sunny Hills, who tied for the Crestview League championship with a 6-2 record.

With the playoffs set to begin, anticipation builds as these top teams prepare to showcase their skills on the court. The CIF-SS playoffs promise to deliver thrilling volleyball action as the teams vie for championship glory in the coming weeks.
