PCM Girls Basketball Dominates Saydel with 61-13 Victory
The PCM girls basketball team delivered a commanding performance against Saydel, securing a decisive 61-13 victory in Des Moines on Friday. This win marks the Mustangs’ 19th consecutive triumph over the Eagles, and the 48-point margin stands as the largest in their series since a 53-point victory on December 2, 2016.
From the outset, the Mustangs set the tone, racing to a 17-2 lead after the first quarter. They continued to dominate throughout the game, outscoring Saydel 20-4 in the second quarter, 12-1 in the third, and 12-6 in the final period. This strong performance showcases the Mustangs’ defensive prowess, as they held the Eagles to single digits in every quarter.
Tori Lindsay emerged as the standout player for PCM, scoring a game-high 13 points, with 10 of those coming in the first half. She also contributed five rebounds, three assists, and three steals. Libby Winters added to the Mustangs’ success by scoring all seven of her points in the first half, along with five rebounds, four assists, four steals, and two blocks.
Kyra Naeve was another key contributor, scoring 10 points and adding two assists and two steals, with eight of her points also coming in the first half. Lila Milani and Jorja Teeter rounded out the scoring with six and four points, respectively, while Teeter also grabbed three rebounds.
The Mustangs’ bench played a significant role in the victory, contributing 21 points. Lillian Knapp achieved a career-high seven points, five of which were scored in the second half, and she also tallied two assists. Lexi Fagg marked her varsity debut by scoring the first five points of her career. Kenna Grier recorded three points, three rebounds, four assists, and two steals, while Camden Webb added four points, four rebounds, and three steals. Bailey Wheeler also made an impact off the bench with two steals.
PCM’s shooting statistics reflect their offensive efficiency, as the team shot 44.4 percent from the floor, converted 8-of-22 from three-point range, and made 5-of-9 from the free-throw line.
On the opposing side, Luella Weispfenning led Saydel with five points and nine rebounds, while Taylor Vanderpool added four points and five boards. The Eagles struggled offensively, shooting only 18 percent from the field, failing to make any of their five attempts from beyond the arc, and committing a staggering 33 turnovers.
With this victory, the Mustangs improve to a record of 3-1, with a conference standing of 2-0 in the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference. The performance against Saydel not only highlights their current form but also sets a high standard for their upcoming matches in the season.
