Albany Man Convicted for Menacing Clown Stunt with Chainsaw
URGENT UPDATE: An Albany man, Craig Wolcott, has been convicted of serious charges following a bizarre incident where he terrorized local residents while dressed as a clown and wielding a chainsaw. The confrontation, which occurred on May 1, 2023, escalated into violence, leading to his arrest and subsequent conviction on December 3, 2023.
Witnesses reported that Wolcott, wearing a clown mask, was spotted brandishing a covered chainsaw in a neighborhood. Passersby filmed the unsettling scene as Wolcott argued with a bystander. The situation turned alarming when Wolcott raised the chainsaw in a threatening manner, prompting a physical altercation before local police intervened. Authorities confirmed Wolcott was taken into custody and charged.
The jury found Wolcott guilty of first-degree menacing and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, which could lead to a prison sentence of two to seven years. His sentencing is scheduled for February 6, 2026. The swift action by law enforcement and the community’s response highlight the seriousness of such reckless behavior.
In a related event, the Canadian Pacific Holiday Train made its long-awaited return to the Capital Region after a three-year hiatus. The festive train rolled through Mechanicville, Saratoga Springs, and Fort Edward, bringing joy and support to local food banks. During its stop in Mechanicville, the train presented the community center with a check for $3,500 to help restock food supplies.
Despite rainy weather, hundreds of families attended the event, enjoying live performances, including a special appearance by country artist Lindsay Ell. The Holiday Train aims to raise awareness and funds for food insecurity, making each stop a significant community effort.
As these events unfold, the Albany community is left grappling with Wolcott’s conviction while also celebrating the spirit of giving brought by the Holiday Train. The stark contrast between fear and festivity underscores the unique challenges and resilience within the region.
Stay tuned for further updates on Wolcott’s sentencing and more community developments.
