Blue Jays Honor Dodgers’ Vesia with No. 51 Caps in Game 7
URGENT UPDATE: The Toronto Blue Jays are paying a heartfelt tribute to Los Angeles Dodgers reliever Alex Vesia by wearing his No. 51 caps during the intense Game 7 of the World Series today. Vesia is currently away from the team due to a deeply personal family matter, as confirmed by Dodgers officials.
This show of solidarity comes just a day after Dodgers pitchers donned the No. 51 on their caps in honor of Vesia during their 3-1 victory that forced the decisive game. Blue Jays relievers, including Chris Bassitt, Seranthony Dominguez, Mason Fluharty, and Louis Varland, followed suit during today’s pivotal match.
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts expressed his gratitude for the Blue Jays’ gesture, emphasizing the deep respect athletes have for one another. “I didn’t learn that until after the game last night. It speaks to the brotherhood of athletes and how much respect and love they have for one another. It’s a huge, huge tribute to Alex,” he stated before the game.
Enrique Hernandez, a Dodgers outfielder, shared his surprise upon seeing Bassitt’s cap. “I was looking up at the board to see the replay… and that’s when I saw that he had 51. For those guys to do that, it’s incredible. They understand that life is bigger than baseball,” he remarked.
Blue Jays manager John Schneider echoed these sentiments, highlighting the character of his players. “We have a lot of good people in there that just appreciate what we all do and the hardships that come with it,” he noted.
Vesia, 29, has been a key player for the Dodgers, boasting a 3.02 ERA across 68 regular-season games. His absence is felt both on and off the field, as teams demonstrate their support during this challenging time.
As Game 7 unfolds, all eyes will be on how this tribute impacts the atmosphere on the field. The compassion displayed by both teams underscores the importance of solidarity in sports, transcending the competitive spirit of the World Series.
Stay tuned for further updates as the World Series reaches its climax, and continue to share this inspiring act of unity across social platforms.
