Blue Jays Rookie Yesavage to Start Game 1 of World Series

BREAKING: The Toronto Blue Jays have confirmed that rookie pitcher Trey Yesavage will take the mound for Game 1 of the World Series on Friday, September 15, 2025, against the defending champion Los Angeles Dodgers and veteran pitcher Blake Snell. Yesavage, just 22 years old, is making headlines as he steps into this high-pressure role with more postseason starts than regular-season outings.
This is an unprecedented opportunity for Yesavage, who made his major league debut only a month ago. He has quickly established himself in the postseason, with a remarkable performance in the Division Series where he pitched 5 1/3 scoreless innings against the New York Yankees, striking out an impressive 11 batters. As he prepares for this crucial game, Yesavage aims to continue his upward trajectory on baseball’s biggest stage.
Blue Jays manager John Schneider announced the decision earlier today, expressing confidence in Yesavage’s abilities despite his limited experience. Schneider has yet to name a Game 2 starter, keeping options open with pitchers Kevin Gausman, Max Scherzer, and Shane Bieber all in contention.
Yesavage’s journey to this moment is remarkable. Selected 20th overall in last year’s amateur draft from East Carolina University, he has rapidly ascended through the minor leagues this season, starting at Class A Dunedin and reaching Triple-A Buffalo by August.
The Dodgers, meanwhile, have confirmed that Snell will lead off their World Series campaign. He is expected to bring his experience and skill to counter Yesavage’s youthful exuberance and rising talent. Yoshinobu Yamamoto is slated to follow Snell in the Game 2 matchup.
Yesavage’s performance will be closely watched, as he becomes the first rookie to start Game 1 of the World Series since Anthony Reyes for the St. Louis Cardinals in 2006. Fans and analysts alike are eager to see if Yesavage can rise to the occasion and lead the Blue Jays to victory against a formidable Dodgers lineup.
As Game 1 approaches, anticipation is building in Toronto and beyond. The Blue Jays are looking to capture their first championship since 1993, and the pressure is on Yesavage to deliver a standout performance. Stay tuned for updates as this exciting matchup unfolds!
