D’Andre Swift Set to Return as Bears Face Giants in Week 10
UPDATE: The Chicago Bears are gearing up for a crucial Week 10 showdown against the New York Giants, with their backfield at full strength as D’Andre Swift is expected to return. This comes after Kyle Monangai stunned fans with a breakout performance, rushing for 176 yards in last week’s thrilling 47-42 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals.
As the Bears prepare for the game on October 29, 2023, Swift, who missed practice on Friday due to personal reasons, is slated to play. The team opted not to elevate another running back from the practice squad, signaling confidence in Swift’s readiness. His return could not come at a better time, as the Giants boast the second-worst run defense in the league, allowing an alarming 150 rushing yards per game.
The Bears are currently averaging 144.4 rushing yards per game, placing them second in the NFL. With Swift back alongside Monangai, who is a seventh-round pick from Rutgers, the Bears aim to exploit the Giants’ vulnerabilities on the ground. Coach Ben Johnson indicated a shared backfield strategy, emphasizing a flexible approach based on performance during the game.
“I believe in a guy having a hot hand, so if one guy is feeling it and giving us a spark, we might lean on that a little bit longer,” Johnson stated, highlighting the dynamic potential of the Bears’ offense.
Swift’s presence is especially vital, as he has averaged an impressive 6.3 yards per carry over his last three games, despite battling a groin injury that has lingered since Week 3. He previously topped 100 yards in games against the Washington Commanders and the New Orleans Saints, showcasing his explosive capability.
In addition to the excitement surrounding the backfield, rookie Roschon Johnson is also expected to return after missing two games with a back injury, adding further depth to the Bears’ rushing attack. The team made a strategic roster move by promoting tight end Stephen Carlson from the practice squad to bolster their offense after starter Durham Smythe was deemed questionable due to a calf injury.
As the Bears face off against the Giants at Soldier Field, fans are eager to see how the team balances its offensive strategy. With both Swift and Monangai looking to make significant contributions, the stakes are high for a pivotal matchup that could shape the playoff picture.
In summary, Swift’s return to the field, coupled with Monangai’s recent performance, sets the stage for a potentially explosive day for the Bears’ ground game against a struggling Giants defense. Stay tuned as kickoff approaches!
