Ernie Clement Shatters Postseason Record with 30 Hits in Game 7
BREAKING: In a stunning display of talent, Ernie Clement of the Toronto Blue Jays made history on Saturday night, securing a major league record with 30 hits in a single postseason. This remarkable feat was achieved during Game 7 of the World Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Clement’s record-breaking performance included three hits, surpassing the previous record of 29 hits held by Randy Arozarena from the 2020 postseason. Arozarena’s record was set during a campaign where the Tampa Bay Rays played 20 playoff games, while the Blue Jays reached the World Series after just 18 games this season.
Hitting prowess defined Clement’s night; he delivered a single in the second inning, another single in the sixth, and a record-breaking leadoff double in the eighth inning that drove Dodgers reliever Emmet Sheehan from the mound. This remarkable performance also extended his hitting streak to 13 games, a new Blue Jays postseason record, eclipsing Pat Borders’s 12-game streak from 1992.
Playing in his first postseason, Clement boasted a batting average of .417, driven by his impressive showing in Game 7, where he went 3-for-4. He has tallied one home run and nine RBIs throughout the postseason.
“Ernie Clement has shown what it means to rise to the occasion,” said Blue Jays manager. “His record is a testament to his dedication and talent.”
As the game progressed, the tension mounted. Clement came close to clinching a championship for the Blue Jays in the bottom of the ninth with a powerful drive to left-center. However, the ball was caught on the warning track with the bases loaded, sending the game into extra innings tied at 4.
Clement, 29, was drafted by the Cleveland Guardians in 2017 but faced setbacks after being designated for assignment in September 2022. He later signed with the Oakland Athletics before joining the Blue Jays, where he played a career-high 157 games this regular season, hitting .277 with nine home runs and 50 RBIs.
As fans eagerly await the outcome of this thrilling World Series, Clement’s historic achievement serves as a reminder of the excitement and unpredictability of postseason baseball. The Blue Jays may have fallen short in the championship series, but Clement’s legacy is firmly established, making him a player to watch in the future.
Stay tuned for more updates as the baseball world reacts to this historic moment.
